I You We Fear I You We

Sit with me.
I saved you a space in the vast empty place.
Don’t say I never gave you nothing.
I picked the music just for you.
Hm? No, not because of anything you like.
The resonant dissonance just reminds me of you.

Do you know why you are here?
I didn’t think you would.
Consider me a guide, an old friend.
It is a friend’s duty not to leave you lonely.
Even here, even now. I do not leave you.
I don’t abandon duty.

Who am I? What a simple question.
I am as me as you are you as we are we.
When you fear me you do not fear yourself.
But surely you should. Who else stood you within the sky?
Who else let the wind whistle past you?
Who else laid their hands against your shoulders?

Do you understand yet?
Why if you fear me, you should fear yourself?
You should fear all of us?
And yet we sit together, in uncanny valley, and you have no fear.
What do you make of that?
Am I not a part of this too?

Don’t try to leave. I don’t want you lost.
Even I can fear loss. But I wasn’t lying.
I can be a guide, an old friend.
So it’s time to decide where you
and I
take your path next.
